dicotyledon

Bean plant type

A dicotyledon is a flowering plant whose seeds have two embryonic leaves (cotyledons), as opposed to the single leaf of monocotyledons.

Most familiar trees, shrubs, and garden plants are dicotyledons—roses, oaks, beans, sunflowers.

They typically have net-veined leaves and flower parts in multiples of four or five.

Often shortened to dicot.
