negative pressure
Below atmospheric pressure
Negative pressure describes a condition where pressure in one area is lower than in a surrounding or reference area.
In medicine, negative pressure wound therapy uses suction to promote healing.
In building systems, negative pressure rooms prevent contaminated air from escaping—air flows in but not out: The isolation ward maintains negative pressure to contain airborne pathogens.
The term is relative; what matters is the pressure differential, not an absolute value below zero.
