cyclone
Spiral low-pressure system
A cyclone is a large-scale rotating storm system, with winds spiraling inward around a low-pressure center.
In the Indian Ocean and South Pacific, cyclone names what's called a hurricane in the Atlantic or typhoon in the western Pacific—all the same phenomenon.
More loosely, cyclone describes any violent rotating windstorm: The cyclone tore through the trailer park.
Figuratively, a person or force that moves with destructive energy: She swept through the office like a cyclone.
