separatism
Push for independence
Separatism is the advocacy or pursuit of political independence for a group—ethnic, religious, or regional—from a larger governing body.
Separatist movements seek to break away and form their own state: Catalan separatism, Quebec separatism.
The term can extend beyond politics to any philosophy of maintaining strict boundaries between groups: racial separatism, gender separatism.
