Bosniaks

South Slavic people

Bosniaks are a South Slavic ethnic group native to Bosnia and Herzegovina, distinguished primarily by their Islamic religious heritage.

They are the largest ethnic group in Bosnia and Herzegovina, alongside Serbs (Orthodox Christian) and Croats (Catholic).

The term replaced "Bosnian Muslim" as the official ethnonym after the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s: The Bosniaks faced ethnic cleansing during the siege of Sarajevo.
