no-fly zone
Prohibited flight area
A no-fly zone is airspace where aircraft are prohibited from flying, typically enforced by military power.
Governments establish no-fly zones to protect civilian populations during conflicts, prevent enemy air operations, or secure sensitive areas: The coalition enforced a no-fly zone over the region.
The term gained prominence in the 1990s with zones over Iraq and Bosnia.
