West Nile virus

Culex-transmitted febrile illness

West Nile virus is a mosquito-borne infection that can cause fever, headache, and body aches, and in severe cases, inflammation of the brain or spinal cord.

First identified in Uganda in 1937, it spread to North America in 1999 and is now found on most continents.

Most infected people show no symptoms.
