norovirus
Cruise ship scourge
Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes sudden-onset vomiting and diarrhea, often called stomach flu though it's unrelated to influenza.
It spreads rapidly through contaminated food, water, or surfaces, and is notorious for sweeping through cruise ships, schools, and nursing homes.
Half the office came down with norovirus after the holiday party.
