yellow fever
Tropical viral disease
Yellow fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily in tropical regions of Africa and South America.
The illness causes fever, chills, and body aches, and in severe cases leads to jaundice—the yellowing of skin and eyes that gives the disease its name.
Yellow fever was historically devastating to populations in warm climates and spurred major public health efforts, including mosquito control during the construction of the Panama Canal.
