rhinovirus

Common cold cause

A rhinovirus is any of a large group of viruses that cause the common cold and other upper respiratory infections.

The name comes from the Greek word for nose—the primary site of infection.

Rhinoviruses spread easily through airborne droplets and contaminated surfaces, accounting for more colds than any other pathogen: She tested positive for rhinovirus.
