chickenpox
Childhood blister illness
Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral disease, mainly affecting children, that causes an itchy rash of small red spots that blister and scab over.
Most people get it once and develop lifelong immunity.
The disease is usually mild in children but can be serious in adults.
A vaccine has made it far less common since the 1990s.
Also spelled chicken pox.
