carbon monoxide
Deadly odorless gas
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas produced by incomplete combustion of carbon-containing fuels.
It's extremely toxic because it binds to hemoglobin more readily than oxygen, preventing blood from carrying oxygen to tissues.
Carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty heaters, car exhaust, or poorly ventilated fires can be fatal: The detector went off when carbon monoxide levels rose.
