Hantavirus
Mouse-transmitted viral genus
Hantavirus is a family of viruses carried by rodents, transmitted to humans through contact with rodent urine, droppings, or saliva, or by inhaling contaminated dust.
Infection can cause hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a severe respiratory illness with high mortality.
Named after the Hantan River in South Korea, where an early outbreak was studied.
