Viking funeral
Burning boat farewell
A Viking funeral is a burial rite in which a body is placed on a ship or boat and set ablaze, either at sea or on shore.
The practice evokes Norse warrior traditions, though historically it was rare even among Vikings.
The phrase now describes any dramatic send-off involving fire: We gave the old couch a Viking funeral in the backyard.
