Stratford-upon-Avon
Bard's hometown river
Stratford-upon-Avon is a market town in central England, on the River Avon.
It is famous as Shakespeare's birthplace and the site of the Royal Shakespeare Company's theaters.
The name has become shorthand for Shakespeare pilgrimage and theatrical tradition: We spent a weekend in Stratford-upon-Avon seeing three plays.
