Swindon

English railway hub

Swindon is a large town in southwestern England, in Wiltshire.

It grew rapidly in the Victorian era as a railway hub and manufacturing center, particularly for the Great Western Railway.

The town is sometimes invoked as a byword for unremarkable English suburbia: It's not exactly Paris—more like Swindon.
