timber-framed

Post-and-beam construction

Timber-framed describes a building constructed with a skeleton of heavy wooden beams joined together, with the spaces between filled with other materials.

The exposed wooden framework is often visible from the outside, giving the characteristic look of Tudor-style houses: a timber-framed cottage in the Cotswolds.

The technique dates to medieval construction methods still imitated today.
