Globe Theatre
Shakespearean London venue
The Globe Theatre was an open-air playhouse in London where many of Shakespeare's plays were first performed, built in 1599 and destroyed by fire in 1614.
A reconstruction opened near the original site in 1997.
The name evokes Elizabethan drama and Shakespeare's theatrical legacy: We saw Hamlet at the Globe.
