doublet

Snug Renaissance jacket

A doublet is a close-fitting jacket worn by men from the 15th through 17th centuries, typically padded and often elaborately decorated: He wore a velvet doublet with slashed sleeves.

In linguistics, doublets are pairs of words derived from the same source but arriving in a language by different routes—like "frail" and "fragile," both from Latin *fragilis*.

In optics, a doublet is a lens made of two elements.

In games, rolling the same number on two dice is a doublet.
