Legally preserved architecture
Listed buildings are structures officially designated as having special architectural or historic interest, protected by law from demolition or unauthorized alteration.
The term is primarily British, referring to buildings placed on a statutory register: The church is a Grade I listed building.
Owners must obtain consent before making changes, even to interiors.
Similar protection systems exist elsewhere under different names.
