Ethiopia's eastern neighbor
Somalia is a country on the Horn of Africa, bordered by Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Kenya.
Its long coastline on the Indian Ocean has made it strategically significant and, during periods of state collapse, a haven for piracy.
The capital is Mogadishu.
Decades of civil war and clan conflict have made Somalia synonymous with failed statehood, though functioning regional governments exist.
