starvation
Death from hunger
Starvation is the state of suffering or dying from extreme lack of food.
The body consumes its own tissues when deprived of nutrition long enough.
Extended uses describe any severe deprivation: oxygen starvation, attention starvation.
To die of starvation is literal; I'm starving is usually dramatic exaggeration for ordinary hunger.
