Gulf states
Petroleum-rich neighbors
The Gulf states are the countries bordering the Persian Gulf—Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and sometimes Iraq and Iran.
The term appears frequently in discussions of oil production, Middle Eastern politics, and regional cooperation: The Gulf states increased oil output. (Capitalized Gulf States typically refers to U.S. states on the Gulf of Mexico.)
