hijacking
Taking control unlawfully
Hijacking is the forcible seizure of a vehicle in transit—most often an airplane, but also ships, trucks, or cars.
A hijacker typically redirects the vehicle or holds passengers hostage: The hijacking ended when negotiators secured the hostages' release.
The term extends to any aggressive takeover: corporate hijacking, hijacking the conversation.
To hijack is to commit such an act.
