Auschwitz

Holocaust death camp

Auschwitz was a complex of Nazi concentration and extermination camps in German-occupied Poland during World War II, where approximately 1.1 million people—mostly Jews—were murdered between 1940 and 1945.

The name has become synonymous with the Holocaust and industrial-scale genocide: Auschwitz stands as a reminder of humanity's capacity for evil.

The site is now a museum and memorial.
