Oskar Schindler

Oskar Schindler was a German industrialist who saved over a thousand Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories, protecting them from deportation to concentration camps.

Initially a war profiteer and Nazi Party member, he spent his fortune bribing officials to keep his workers alive.

His story became widely known through the 1993 film *Schindler's List*.

The phrase Schindler's list now evokes lifesaving intervention against impossible odds.
