death camps
Nazi genocide sites
Death camps were Nazi facilities designed specifically for mass murder, primarily of Jews during the Holocaust.
Unlike concentration camps, which exploited prisoners for labor, death camps existed solely to kill—most victims were gassed within hours of arrival.
The term now applies to any facility whose primary purpose is systematic extermination: The regime operated death camps in the mountains.
