New Left
Campus activism wave
New Left refers to political movements that emerged in the 1960s, distinct from the traditional labor-focused left.
The New Left emphasized civil rights, feminism, anti-war activism, and cultural liberation over economic class struggle.
It drew heavily from student movements and countercultural politics: The New Left transformed American universities.
The term now often appears historically, contrasting with both Old Left Marxism and contemporary progressive movements.
