Native American rights
Tribal legal protections
Native American rights are the legal protections and sovereign powers belonging to Indigenous peoples of the United States.
These include tribal self-governance, treaty rights to land and resources, hunting and fishing privileges, and cultural preservation.
The term encompasses both rights guaranteed by treaties with the federal government and broader claims to ancestral territories and self-determination: Native American rights activists opposed the pipeline.
