Kaddish
Jewish memorial prayer
Kaddish is a Jewish prayer of praise to God, central to synagogue worship.
Though several versions exist for different liturgical purposes, the term usually means the Mourner's Kaddish, recited by bereaved family members for eleven months after a death and on subsequent anniversaries: She observed the tradition of saying Kaddish for her mother.
The prayer itself speaks of God's greatness rather than death or mourning. (Lowercase kaddish is an alternate spelling.)
