tallis

Synagogue prayer garment

A tallis is a Jewish prayer shawl, traditionally white with black or blue stripes and fringed corners, worn during morning prayers and on Yom Kippur.

The fringes (tzitzit) at each corner fulfill a biblical commandment.

Also spelled tallit, closer to the Hebrew pronunciation: He draped the tallis over his shoulders before the service.
