tombstone
Cemetery memorial stone
A tombstone is a stone marker placed at a grave, typically inscribed with the deceased person's name and dates: We found our ancestor's tombstone in the old cemetery.
The word extends to anything resembling such a marker in shape or finality.
In finance, a tombstone is a print advertisement announcing a completed deal—so called because of its plain, rectangular format listing participants.
In computing, tombstone can refer to a placeholder marking deleted data.
