bimah
Synagogue reading platform
A bimah is the raised platform in a synagogue from which the Torah is read and services are conducted.
In some congregations, the bimah is centrally located; in others, it sits at the front near the ark.
The term comes from Hebrew and may also be spelled bima or bema: The rabbi ascended the bimah to begin the service.
