Winston Churchill
British wartime leader
Winston Churchill was a British statesman who served as Prime Minister during World War II, becoming synonymous with wartime leadership and defiance against Nazi Germany.
His speeches rallied Britain through the Blitz: We shall fight on the beaches.
Churchill appears in figurative use as shorthand for resolute leadership in crisis: We need a Churchill, not a committee.
