art
Gallery's treasured contents
Art is a uniquely human product, based on the feature of perceived beauty and created for human enjoyment.
Art is a very general word and encompasses many things that are examples of it, including painting, sculpture, film, music, literature, and architecture.
When art is used to talk about tangible objects, it is likely to mean paintings or sculpture: She left her huge collection of art to the local museum. State of the art is a common phrase that is not about art per se, but about an accepted and current way of doing something.
As a completely different word, art is the archaic second person singular indicative form of the verb be, now seen only in older text: Art thou the King of the Jews?
