MRI scan
Soft tissue photograph
An MRI scan is a medical imaging procedure that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed pictures of organs and tissues inside the body.
MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging.
Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI uses no radiation: The doctor ordered an MRI scan of her knee.
The procedure requires lying still inside a large tube-shaped machine, often for 30 minutes or more.
