opacification

Loss of transparency

Opacification is the process of becoming opaque or making something opaque—blocking the passage of light or other radiation.

The term appears most often in medical contexts, where it describes areas on imaging scans that appear cloudy or dense: The X-ray showed opacification in the lower lung.

In ophthalmology, lens opacification refers to cataracts forming.
