eddy current
Looping induced flow
An eddy current is a loop of electrical current induced within a conductor by a changing magnetic field.
The current swirls in closed paths like eddies in water, generating its own magnetic field that opposes the original change.
Eddy currents cause energy loss as heat in transformers and motors, but are harnessed usefully in induction heating, metal detectors, and electromagnetic braking systems.
