Danzig

Polish city, German-named

Danzig is the German name for Gdańsk, a port city on Poland's Baltic coast.

The name appears frequently in European history—the Free City of Danzig was a contested territory between the World Wars, and Germany's 1939 invasion of Poland began with an attack on a Danzig outpost.

In contemporary use, Danzig is also an American heavy metal band fronted by Glenn Danzig.
