anoxic
Lacking breathable air
Anoxic describes an environment or condition lacking oxygen.
In medicine, anoxic brain injury results from oxygen deprivation to the brain.
In ecology, anoxic waters or sediments cannot support oxygen-dependent life: The lake's bottom layer becomes anoxic in summer.
The term is more absolute than hypoxic, which indicates reduced but not absent oxygen.
