mesentery

Intestinal tissue attachment

The mesentery is the fold of tissue that attaches the intestines and other abdominal organs to the back wall of the abdomen.

It holds the gut in place while allowing flexibility, and carries blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatic tissue to the digestive tract.

Once thought to be fragmented, it's now recognized as a single continuous organ.
