tiltyard
Knights' combat ground
A tiltyard is an enclosed arena where knights jousted, charging at each other on horseback with lances.
The name comes from tilt, an old word for joust.
Tiltyards were common features of medieval castles and royal residences: The king watched from a gallery overlooking the tiltyard.
