killing field
Genocide's grim terrain
A killing field is a site of mass execution or slaughter, especially during war or genocide.
The term gained currency from the Cambodian genocide of the 1970s, when the Khmer Rouge murdered over a million people and left their bodies in rural areas.
Extended use describes any place of widespread death or destruction: The intersection became a killing field for pedestrians.
