A halberd is a medieval weapon combining a spear point with an axe blade and a hook, mounted on a long pole.

Infantry used halberds against mounted cavalry—the point for thrusting, the blade for cutting, the hook for pulling riders from horses.

Palace guards still carry ceremonial halberds.
