CFCs

Banned refrigerant gases

CFCs, short for chlorofluorocarbons, are synthetic chemical compounds once widely used as refrigerants, aerosol propellants, and foam-blowing agents.

They were phased out internationally after scientists discovered they deplete the ozone layer.

The term appears in environmental discussions: CFCs were banned under the Montreal Protocol.
