westerlies
Prevailing temperate winds
The westerlies are prevailing winds that blow from west to east in the middle latitudes, roughly between 30 and 60 degrees in both hemispheres.
These winds shape weather patterns across much of North America and Europe, carrying moisture and storms from ocean to land: The westerlies brought another Pacific storm to the coast.
