ozone layer
UV-blocking stratum
The ozone layer is a region of Earth's upper atmosphere, roughly 15 to 35 kilometers up, where ozone molecules concentrate and absorb most of the sun's ultraviolet radiation.
Without it, life on Earth's surface would be exposed to dangerous levels of UV light.
The ozone layer has been recovering since the ban on CFCs.
