single-lens reflex
Mirror-based camera type
Single-lens reflex describes a camera design where a mirror reflects light from the lens up through a prism to the viewfinder, letting you see exactly what the lens sees.
When you press the shutter, the mirror flips up to expose the film or sensor.
Usually abbreviated SLR or, for digital versions, DSLR: She upgraded from her phone to a DSLR for better control.
