hot shoe
Flash attachment point
A hot shoe is the mounting bracket on top of a camera that accepts flash units and other accessories.
Unlike a cold shoe, which is purely mechanical, a hot shoe includes electrical contacts that allow the camera and accessory to communicate—triggering the flash at the right moment, for instance.
She slid the external flash into the hot shoe until it clicked.
