viewfinder

Photographer's framing device

A viewfinder is the small window or screen on a camera through which you compose a shot before taking it.

On older cameras, it's an optical eyepiece; on digital cameras, it may be an electronic display.

The viewfinder shows approximately what the lens will capture: She raised the camera to her eye and framed the shot through the viewfinder.
